Strategies for Intergenerational Catechesis
This learning activity presents five strategies for envisioning and designing catechesis with the whole community.
- Strategy 1. Design catechesis around the intergenerational life and events of the parish community
- Strategy 2. Transform multigenerational settings into intergenerational faith-forming experiences
- Strategy 3. Redesign age-specific programs into intergenerational faith-forming experiences
- Strategy 4. Create new intergenerational faith-forming initiatives
- Strategy 5. Implement intergenerational learning models
Begin by reading Chapter 7 in Guided by the Directory and the Insights & Practices article (attached).
Envisioning Intergenerational Strategies
For each intergenerational strategy develop ideas for how you can implement that strategy in your parish. Use the Guide to Designing Catechesis (pages 5-8) and ideas in Chapter 7 of Guided by the Directory to assist you.
- Strategy 1. Design catechesis around the intergenerational life and events of the parish community
- Strategy 2. Transform multigenerational settings into intergenerational faith-forming experiences
- Strategy 3. Redesign age-specific programs into intergenerational faith-forming experiences
- Strategy 4. Create new intergenerational faith-forming initiatives
For your course assignment: Use one of the following intergenerational strategies to create one intergenerational project:
- Strategy 1. Design catechesis around the intergenerational life and events of the parish community., Select one event and design an intergenerational program or activity.
- Strategy 2. Transform multigenerational settings into intergenerational faith-forming experiences. Select one multi-generational setting to design into an intergenerational experience.
- Strategy 3. Redesign age-specific programs into intergenerational faith-forming experiences. Select one age-specific program and redesign it with intergenerational experiences.
Envisioning Intergenerational Learning
Review the models of intergenerational catechesis (Strategy 5) in Chapter 7 or the Guide to Designing Intergenerational Catechesis.
How might your parish incorporate intergenerational learning into lifelong catechesis?
Could you incorporate several intergenerational gatherings into your program year, such as an Advent Festival or Lent Festival for all ages to learn, pray, celebrate, and connect with each other.?
