Resource

1. Review the Models of Family Catechesis for the Entire Family

Read Part 4. Models of Family Catechesis in the Guide to present how parishes can engage the entire family in faith formation experiences as the primary model for catechesis with families (monthly, twice-a-month, or weekly), as an integrated model within age group programming and/or within the seasons of the year (Advent, Lent, and more) and/or as family workshops throughout the year, and as family-centered sacramental preparation(Reconciliation and First Eucharist).

Review the examples in the “Guide to Family Faith Formation Models” that illustrate how parishes are implementing different approaches to engaging the entire family in catechetical programming. The report presents the parish profiles organized into the following categories

  1. Family Catechesis as the Primary Model for Parish Catechesis (Usually designed for families with children through middle school young people; and offered monthly, twice monthly, or weekly)
  2. Family Catechesis within an Intergenerational Model of Catechesis
  3. Family Catechesis Integrated within Children’s Catechesis, including Sacramental Preparation
  4. Seasonal Family Catechesis Gatherings

2. Reflect and Apply

How can your parish utilize one or more of the models of family catechesis in your Family Faith Formation Plan? Where would you include programming for the entire family?

  • Family catechesis as a primary model for faith formation with children and young people
  • Family catechesis integrated with children/youth age group catechesis
  • Family catechesis sacramental preparation programming
  • Seasonal family catechesis programming
  • Family workshops
  • Family cluster or small group programming
  • Family-centered Vacation Bible School

  • And more...
